Charity of the year
As part of EDF Energy we have a number of strategic partnerships with charitable organisations and these are outlined below. Our charity partnerships support the delivery of our climate and social commitments, helping us to serve our customers better, inspire people towards a more sustainable lifestyle and raise essential funds for the charities’ vital work.
Our national charity partners
British Energy – part of EDF Energy is proud to be working in partnership with Global Action Plan and the British Paralympics Association (ParalympicsGB) as our two national charity partners.
ParalympicsGB - since April 2010
ParalympicsGB (British Paralympic Association) is the charity responsible for selecting, preparing, funding and managing Britain’s teams at the Paralympic Games. EDF Energy will work with ParalympicsGB to make all their preparation camps for the London 2012 Paralympic Games more sustainable, reducing the environmental impact of the camps and changing the behaviour of athletes and coaches. Money donated through employee fundraising will enable ParalympicsGB to take a bigger, better prepared team to compete and we will be working with the ParalympicsGB team to support and raise awareness of the need for a diverse workforce and what this means.
Global Action Plan - since March 2009
Global Action Plan is an independent environmental charity. They aim to reduce the carbon emissions we all cause during our daily lives, which contribute to issues such as climate change. Our partnership with Global Action Plan isn’t just about environmental benefits; it is about communities, education and helping disadvantaged people to improve the quality of their lives. Money raised will be directed towards engaging households who are most in need.
MS Society - September 2008 - March 2010
Our partnership with the MS Society began in 2008, when British Energy appointed them their charity of the year. During our 18 month partnership with the MS Society, we achieved many successes including employees raising over £250,000, with the MS Society receiving a further £200k donation from the Company. Our fundraising and volunteering support has made a real difference to people affected by MS which we hope will continue to have a positive impact on the local MS community long after our partnership has ended.
