Managing spent fuel: British Energy, part of EDF Energy, are reviewing the options for managing spent fuel at Sizewell B power station from 2015 and beyond. Public exhibitions were held locally during May 2009. You can download our spent fuel booklet and feedback report and Q&A document.
In September British Energy submitted an Environmental Scoping Report to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). The Scoping Report outlined the nature and purpose of British Energy’s proposed spent fuel management strategy which options included on-site storage in a dry fuel store from 2015, when the current fuel ponds will reach capacity.
During November and December 2009 we consulted on our proposals for a dry storage facility to manage spent fuel at Sizewell B. This consultation closed on Friday 18 December 2009 but if you would still like to view the consultation document please click here. Views submitted during the consultation will be fed into our Environmental Statement. This will accompany our planning application to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in January 2010, as an application for a Section 36 consent under the Electricity Works (England and Wales) Regulations 2000.
